How to Set a Custom Resolution in Windows 10

In Windows 10, when looking through the Display settings to change your screen resolution, you may notice that a lot of common resolutions aren’t available. This isn’t an issue if you’re happy with the native option, but if you need something different, this can be frustrating.


But you can set custom resolutions using a nifty third-party tool that you can grab for free.

ToastyX over at Monitor Tests maintains a tool called Custom Resolution Utility that lets you select any monitor (if you have more than one) and change its resolution to whatever you want. Seriously, whatever you want!

The list starts with some standard resolutions, but if you click Add… and scroll down to Other resolution, you can freely enter any X value, Y value, and refresh rate. Afterwards, just run the restart.exe file (included in the download) to restart your graphics driver.

Note that you should stick with 4:3, 5:4, 16:9, or 16:10 resolutions for best results. Anything else may result in errors or glitches. Run reset-all.exe to revert everything back to original.
